I have done a yellow lino print of my sea monster to go by my two other prints (red and blue.) I am going to do a colour  print of my other lino carving (my dragon curled around a rock.) I am also going to paint a picture I drew last week, this is the picture --------->

Art

Now at Enrich we have 4 weeks left, and I have to paint my split egg, and add finishing touches to my nest. I have finished 'Midget' which is what  I have named my little dragon that goes with the egg and nest. I also have to finish off my lino print about a dragon on the edge of a cliff. I cut my finger today doing the lino print it hurt a lot!

Two stars and a wish

My two stars for Enrich is...
1.  I like talent development because i have learnt a lot in art,
2.  I  also like the picks that we have to do.
My wish is to do more P4C in the next term.
(Just so you know what the two stars and a wish means it means the two things we have enjoyed the most and the things that stood out the most for us this term and the wish is something we would like to be improved for the next term.)

ART

This term my talent development is art, as you can read three blog posts ago. I have now finished my lino print and am half way through my newspaper and tape. So far for my newspaper and tape I have paper mached my cave my nest and the board that it all goes on. I have put clay all over my dragon. What I am making is a cave with a nest inside with one big egg and a dragon curled around the cave.  :)

CANTRUCTION!

Last week my team decided to do a silver fern on a rugby ball for canstruction. (if you read my other post you will know what canstruction is.) We are deciding to do a easy thing to make because this is our first time doing canstruction. I hope our plan will work!

Canstruction

At Enrich we are entering a competition about making a design with food cans. There are five people at Enrich who are designing what shape it will be (I'm one of those people) but everyone at Enrich will help make it. After we do the design we give the cans of food to charity. In the competition  you can't use any glue or tape or anything like that. These two pictures are some past entries of this competition made by other people...

New Talent Development!

This term (term 3) there were three new talent development choices.  They were:  documentary making, narrative writing and art.  I chose art. Our art topic is dragons and reptiles. There are different types of ways to do the art like lino prints (which is the one I'm doing) painting, sculpting with tape and newspaper (I'm doing that as well) This is a photo of my lino print so far (it is not finished!)--------->

Teacher Comment

Libby.
What a busy term you have had Libby.  I have seen your confidence grow in the way you seek out new challenges.  You are passionate about chess, and you worked very hard to get to the top of the leader-board!  I have seen your creative side come through when completing your individual mosaic.  It was great to see you working independently on this task, and making sure that the shape and lines within your pattern were going to work.  You have excellent time management.  Your learning is tracked not only on your Must Do / Can Do sheet, but also with regular blog comments.  Keep up the excellent work Libby.
Katie.

Talent Development

For talent development I am doing art. The type of art I am doing is mosaics. My design is a smiley face. First I smashed the tiles, then I arranged the tiles in the order I wanted them to be, then I glued all of the smashed tiles onto the big tile base. Now all I have to do is grout and then I will be finished the mosaic. This is what it looks like now without the grout ------>

Chess tournament

On Saturday the 18th I went to a chess tournament. I went in an Enrich team, there were four people in one team. Enrich took five teams (so that means 20 people) and I was in team C (team three). I played six games and won four. The tournament was in Dunedin so it was a very long trip in the bus! At the tournament there was 24 teams (some where intermediate teams). You get 1 point for winning one game and half a point for stale mate. My team's total amount was 13 and a half (out of 24 points.) the tournament was very fun. I hope I get to go next year!!

Being gifted

Being gifted is for me,
I'm gifted because I have task committed ( I do not give up)
I have creativity ( I think outside the square)  and I'm above expected level. (those are the three rings of giftedness) --------------------------->
I'm not good at everything though, I'm good at maths, reading, and I'm good at art. But I'm not so good at writing.
I think it is really nice to come to enrich because at enrich I get challenged and I work with people like me. At Enrich I like it how we don't just do straight forward maths, writing and literacy, the teachers mix all of that together, like writing is doing blog posts and answering questions that they send to us and us sending them back in emails.
I also like coming to enrich because we learn stuff about the what's happening in the world like the volcano in iceland, the earth quake in Christchurch that type of stuff. Another thing I love about Enrich is we also play a lot of chess, and now I'm starting to get good at it!

Talent Development

At Enrich I do a thing called talent development. In talent development we got to choose what to do, the choices were:  Art, Science, and ICT.  I chose Art.  In art we are making mosaics.  First we are just going to do a simple one because it is hard to get the detail.  After we do the little mosaic we are going to do a larger one with a Southland theme.  My little mosaic is going to be a smiley face.  Before I put the tiles on I  have to draw the outline first on a base tile.

Elephants

Today I did a thing called "Today in History" - it was about elephants.  First I had to find out  was ''how many species of elephants was there believed to be in the beginning?" To find that out, I searched on the internet and typed up ''how many elephants were there in the beginning.'' Thats what I did for all of the questions, and there were 5 questions.
This is the elephant questions...

Elephants
1. African elephants, Asian elephants, Indian elephants.
2.  African elephants and asian elephants. African elephants have bigger ears.
3. Kenya is a country in eastern africa and has African elephants
 4.  Because their tusks are Ivory and ivory is a lot of money.
5. Researchers will study 8 male and 8 female elephants for 20 months

Tessellations

I did tessellation art and if you don't know what that is I will tell you.
Tessellation art is when you do a picture and there is no gap in between the next picture. For example a chess board is a tessellation because there are no gaps between the squares. The rule for tessellation art is 'no gaps no over laps.'

Chess

At Enrich I have learnt a lot about chess and a lot about chess strategies like forks, skewers and 4 move checkmate. Now I am a lot better at chess.

P.4.C

This morning I did P.4.C If you don't know what P.4.C is I will tell you, P.4.C stands for philosophy for children. P.4.C is questions that nobody knows the answer to. Todays question was "Can you lie to yourself?" It sounds easy but when you keep thinking about it, it get's really hard. It gets harder because other peoples opinions are different, and it makes me change my mind a lot, because I hadn't thought of their ideas!

Learning Something New!

Today I learnt how to take pictures on the computer, to high light in a different color and how to get cute little fish on my blog!
To take a picture you have to press command, shift and 4 all at the same time. This is one that i took...

To take a screen shot of your whole screen you press command, shift and 3 all at the same time. You can also take photos of backgrounds and icons on your screen by pressing command, shift, 4 and space.

Life at Enrich

I have been at enrich for 6 or 7 weeks now and I find it great fun because we get to do stuff that I like and it is very interesting. I like how we play a game each week and we organise it ourselves. I like the flexible timetable because I can choose when I do things like art or the workshops or play chess. I like how we get our information for day from our e mail in the mornings, and I enjoy trying to solve the rebuses that are on the board.
