Last day of Enrich :(

Today was the last day of Enrich ever for me and I am sad because I like Enrich a lot. I like Enrich because theres so many opportunities here and it's a challenge and that you learn heaps of interesting skills and facts. Today has been normal so far but soon there is going to be a technology challenge which will be different. I have finished glueing tiles for my mosaic but it is not grouted yet because the glue takes 24 hours to dry. It looks like theres heaps of gaps in my mosaic but thats only because theres no grout yet.

Today

Today in the morning I did my passion project, my mosaic. It is not grouted yet so it looks like it has lots of gaps. Last week my group and I painted the wall in the alley way and we painted all day so I had no time to post about it. The Mural was painted straight on the wall so its pretty big. We painted three trees, mountains, pond and a park bench. The photos are of the painting, and they enlarge when you click on them.

Today I had passion project time and since I have finished my stone carving I am now starting a mosaic. I am doing a four leaf clover but haven't got green tiles yet so I did the background first. The background colours are dark purple, light purple and black, although it looks different in the photo. Then after morning tea I played chess and won then after that I did must do's and picks.

Today, at passion project time, I finished my stone carving! I have finished carving swirls for the wool and have put lines in the horns to make them look more realistic. You can click on the images to enlarge them if you want to see them better. Also today I played chess against Alana and still haven't finished our game. Then after morning tea I did a charcoal drawing of a landscape. (the picture is the last one). I used charcoal powder for everything except  for the tree, for that I used a charcoal stick.

Today I played chess against Darryn. He was at the top of the chess leader board and since I bet him I am now at the top. After that I did my environment project, we have now got all the paints ready except black for the mural. My group and I cleaned up the alleyway where we're going to paint the mural so now its tidier. Then after morning tea we got into a group of three and had to do a technology challenge   about MacGyver and a situation that he was in. One of us was pretending to be stuck in drying concrete and there was a chisel and a hammer 2 1/2 metres away. We had news paper, 3 metres of celotape, 5 paper clips and 3 metres of string, scissors and  plastic bag. We had to make a gadget out of those objects and ring it in. We had 15 minutes to make the gadget and 1 minute to get the objects. It was a lot harder than I thought and nobody today completed the challenge but it is possible.

Today I did my passion project (my stone carving). I was making it smooth by using sand paper but its still pretty rough around the front. The face and the front legs need sanding and the horns on the side need more carved into.

Today I did P.4.C with Alana. The question that we were doing it about was 'do humans have the right to pollute'. It was a hard question in my opinion, but after we talked about it I thought the answer was no because the earth is not ours to pollute. After Alana started talking about if every family changed to two glass bottles of milk and reused them Invercargill would produce heaps less rubbish. We thought that because, if theres roughly 10,000 families in Invercargill and every family uses two milk cartons a week thats 20,000 milk cartons coming out of Invercargill each week! Thats 1,040,000 cartons a year!

Today I watched a video about the ten most polluted cities in the world. The most polluted city in the world is Ahvaz in Iran with 372 micrograms of pollutants per cubic meter which is heaps compared with a normal city like LA, which has 25 micrograms per cubic meter! In some of the photos it looks like there's really thick fog but really it's the middle of the day and there's just heaps of smoke from the factories. Once the pollution was so bad in the Netherlands, the water that was being evaporated had so many tiny harmful particles that when it rained it was like acid! Acid rain imagine that! We were surprised that Beijing wasn't there, or any of China's cities, but then Darryn told us that since China's govourment controls the information that is released about their country, the Chinese government would have told them to not put China's cities on the top ten polluted cities. After watching this video lots of us wanted to know what the ten cleanest cities were, and the cleanest city in the world is Wellington!

Today

Today in the morning I played chess against one of the teachers and won. Then after that I did the Environment project again. We finished off an flipchart that were going to show to the ILT to ask for permission to do the murals and we redid some of the plans with chalk in the alleyway.  Then after Morning tea we all saw a video of the polluted water and how it is affecting animal life and humans. It made me think of what is happening outside my environment and it was really sad to see so many animals hurt and because of the pollution turtles and tortoises are nearly extinct. :(

Teacher comment

Wow Libby your 3D pictures look great posted you really made a good job of framing them and making them look as good as they deserved to. You worked hard and made a great job of applying that new learning and exploring what you could do with it, well done!
It was also good to see what your mural ideas looked like actually chalked up out in the space they are going to occupy in the alleyway. It will look amazing when you get it painted up and will certainly improve our environment!!
Keep up the good work.
Darryn

Today!

Today I did my Environment project, my Environment project is doing a mural on the outside alley way beside Enrich with some other people. Today we went out to the alley way and drew on the walls with chalk, planning what we are going to paint. Then later after morning tea, I finished off my 3D art and did some other drawings. Those are the photos and if you click on them they will enlarge.

Today I did 3D art, it was very fun and interesting. It was quite hard and there was heaps of steps to complete but in  the end it will look really cool. The picture above is not finished, there is going to be many more over lapping this one. First I had to draw one big rectangle in the bottom left hand corner and a rectangle in the top right hand corner, half the size as the first.
Then we had to connect the points and then do two horizontal lines on the top and two vertical lines on the side. After that we had to rub out some lines and draw another vertical line in  the middle of the 3D squares.

Today I did Cartooning again, this time I made them out of two digit numbers. My favorite drawing is the one of the police man, he is made out of the number 17, the line for the back of his head is the 1 and his nose is the 7.

This is 12vis Elvis, the line for the top of the nose is the 1 and the curve in his hair in front of his ear is the 2.

This one is made out of the number 13, the line for the four head is the 1 and the 3 is in the shape of the hair.

This is the teacher, which is made out of the number 15, the back of his neck is the 1 and under his nose and the chin is the 5.

This one is made out of the number 16, the side of his head is the 1 and his nose is the 6.

Friday, August 10, 2012

Today I did cartooning. We were drawing people and animals out of letters and numbers. Can you see the numbers and letters? The first one is made out of the number six, the six being the nose. The second one is the vampire thats made out of the number seven (the eyebrow and the nose). The third, the S man is of course made out of the letter S. The S starts at the tip of the four head and ends at the end of the nose. The dog in the bottom right hand corner is made out of the number five. The five starts at the eyes and finishes at the end of the mouth.

Today

Todaydid art. This time I painted a crimson wash first so that non of the paper showed. Then I vertically painted the water so whenhorizontally painted the lily pads and the lilies they would show up better. This time the paper was A4 so it was bigger than the last painting I did that was A5  so it took longer to paint. Also today we talked about what we were going to do for environment and in the end we decided to upgrade the little space between  Enrich and the Building beside Enrich. Some ideas were planting gardens, painting murals and putting picnic tables out there so we could work out there and eat lunch on nice days.

Today

Today a person named Anastashia came in from Environment Southland to talk to us about the problems in the Waihopai River and Seawood Bush. They where both very interesting subjects and there where surprisingly a lot of problems in those environments. In the Waihopai River, the problem was that there was to much mud polluting the river and it was affecting the wild life. In the Seawood Bush there was to much stoats, weasels and ferrets. They are a big problem because theres a lot of native animals in Seawood Bush and the native birds eggs and sometimes the mother birds when nesting are being eaten by the stoats, weasels and ferrets.

Today

Today I did some art, the style of the art was impressionism. Impressionism was first invented in 1860 by a man named Claude Monet. It was very different from all the other styles of art then because it's messy and you can see the brush strokes. Today I also played a cooperative game. In the game you had to get into a group of three, hold hands, keep your feet together and jump at the same time into a hoop. But you could only jump when the teacher shouted jump and clapped her hands. So if you jumped when the teacher didn't clap or shouted go instead of jump or your feet parted or you let go of hands you and your group had to go back to the start. Also when you got to the hoop you couldn't touch the hoop so when you try and jump in the hoop it was quite hard.

Last day of the term!

Today in the morning I did a reflection of the term (it is the picture on the side). If you click on the image it will enlarge so you will be able to read it. I had to finish of the sentences on the sheet about what I have done this term. After that I did chess but we didn't finish the game so no one won. Then it was morning tea, after that I did a self assessment about managing self, and blog posting. And after lunch I'm going to do my passion project!

Photography

Today I did photography, I had to pick my favorite static picture out of the ones I have taken. It will be entered into the made awards. A static image is a photo that hasn't been adjusted in any way. Not even cropped! I had a hard choice to decide which one to pick but in the end I decided the photo above.

Today

Today I made a kowhaiwhai panel, which is a form of maori art. The panels are going to go on the ceiling of Enrich. I could only use  red, black and white because thats what the original colours were. The meaning is me coming to Enrich and learning.

My stone carving

Today I did my stone carving at passion project time. My stone carving (a sheep) now has four legs and it is rounder. It was hard to get it round but I did it. I made it round by using a tool called a rasp. I got covered in dust so I had to brush it all of before I came inside. Hopefully it turns out well!

Today

Today at Enrich I did some photography in the morning and then after morning tea I have started doing a passion project. A passion project is something that you like and then you build on it. I like Art, but I didn't wan't to do sketching or panting because I can do that at home, so I've decided to do a stone carving. My design is a sheep. I've just started it so I've only got  basic shape. But so far it's been really fun! The picture above is Oamaru stone - that is what I am using for my stone carving.

Wearable arts!

Today at Enrich I went on a field trip. We went to the wearable arts display in the museum. (the wearable arts is a display of unusual costumes and unusual materials) There was so many different ideas for costumes, some costumes where made of entirely wood, some were even glow in the dark! Here are some pictures...
The one on the left is entirely wood even the wig!

Aloha Libby,

I really enjoyed the discussion we had during debating today.  You had thought hard about your groups' reasons for why animals should not be kept in cages, and were very quick thinking in your rebuttals.  Thinking about these issues from various groups' perspectives was tricky, but I could see your open minded attitude at work!  I would love to hear any ideas you have for future debate topics!

See you next week

Alana

Today

Today at Enrich I did debating, it was really fun. I was in the negative team and our subject was ''Animals should not be kept in cages.'' I think that it is cruel to cage animals and I don't like it. In the morning I played chess against Grace, and I won.  After that we had to do SCAMPER which is a creative thinking activity where you have to take an everyday object and use it in different ways by altering the item and stuff like that. This afternoon I am going to do Spanish.

Today

Today at Enrich I, in the morning I did drama. Then at interval I played a game of chess against the Darryn and nearly won, after that I did a bio poem and then in the afternoon I learnt some spanish like adios and all the numbers like uno, dos, tres, cuatro and all the way up to ten. Today was fun.
